It is said that because the baby chooses to let go of the placenta when he or she truly wants to, there is no hole or weakness in the auric field. The aura of a Lotus Birth baby is complete (as opposed to that of a person whose cord has been cut, often violently). This complete energetic field in turn leads to a more whole and robust physical immune system. I can attest to this argument one hundred per cent. Both Seireadan and Madeleine have never been to the doctor for illness, never had an ear or chest infection, never caught a communicable disease such as chicken pox. If they’ve ever injured themselves, they healed very fast and well.

With few reference points to ‘know’ whether Lotus Birth was the right thing for our children, my partner and I ‘felt’ it was the right thing to do. And over the last six-and-a-half years it keeps feeling right. That gentle, whole beginning to life has allowed our children, at least from my viewpoint, to be the human beings that they came here to be. They are resolute, definite, solid, enthusiastic, clear – and don’t seem to let life dish up ‘no’ for an answer. Both in their own unique way, they feel confident expressing themselves. Something in their eyes, in the way they look at people, look through people, tells me they have manifested Spirit as wholly and beautifully as possible.

Not once did the placenta get smelly or unpleasant. Not for the eight days in summer with our first-born, nor four days in winter with our second babe. I’m sure the salting helped. But mostly I think it was the sacredness of the event. Seireadan’s placenta even dried into the shape of a heart.

A friendly warning: choose Lotus Birth only if you have accepted the idea of being truly challenged by your children on a daily basis. Nothing escapes them. As a parent you will be able to get away with little. They will expect nothing but the highest personal integrity from you. But it will be repaid trillion-fold, because the crystalline radiance of a lotus-born child is truly magnificent to behold. Our children, and Lotus Birth, have been gifts. We truly recommend it.
